57 Hours & 31 Minutes

57 Hours and 31 Minutes is exactly how long it took me to complete the digital component of my piece; It is an homage to my journey with art.  In the year 2023, my relationship with art is primarily digital in that I illustrate, design, and build using tablets and computers. But, it was through traditional means that I fell in love with art over twenty years ago.  My triptych piece takes three of my own photographs from my recent time in Japan and explores how Japan coexists with the modern, the traditional, and in-between in perfect harmony.  With the traditionally drawn elements overlaying my digital illustrations, I wanted to convey that not only are both valid forms of art and take time, but that as an artist, my work can harmoniously coexist in two separate spaces as one entity.  57 Hours and 31 Minutes is dedicated to my four-year-old self, with her head full of dreams, from my twenty-six-year-old self as I continue to pursue those dreams.

This project was completed using Procreate and Photoshop, as well as gouache and inks for my final capstone piece.
