Creative Jumpstart

Week 7: 21-27 August

To jumpstart my creative mindset this week I started with collecting reference imagery and inspiration for the type of photography and filmography I wanted to utilise for this project. Off the top of my head, I know I wanted something bright, bold, and kitschy and I want to edit it in a way that utilised my own illustrations and collage elements. Below is a screenshot from a Pinterest board I made to visualise the aesthetic I am aiming for.

From here I worked on concepts and storyboards for video ideas. I definitely want to experience photographing and filming my products myself, have recruited friends who specialise in photography and the creation of short-style videos (like reels and Tik Toks). At this stage, I have just storyboarded for a 30-second reel on Instagram since that is one of the main touchpoints for Positivi-Tees.

The rest of the week I gave my focus to AR. Initially, I had a vision for my AR to involve animated elements, I was thinking around the movement of the butterflies and bees, but I decided to start off simple and just create a layered coloured version of the drawing to pop out of the design. Below is the drawing of this design and then two trials of using utilising it with the trigger image on my laptop and then on a shirt.

This video (above) works quite well. For the anchor image, I used a .jpg of the actual design to see if it would register from that which it successfully did.

This video (above), however, shows how the trigger image using the .jpg of the design did not work so well. I plan to try this again (still using the .jpg as the trigger image) but with someone actually wearing the shirt and in natural lighting. If that fails to work still, I will have to replace the trigger image with an image of the actual shirt. It is also at this point I realised I needed to test if the trigger image would pick up various colours or if it needed to be red, for example, to recognise it.

At this stage, I think Iā€™m happy with the AR image just being a still, layered, coloured image rather than an animation so I will continue to proceed with this style of AR design.
