AR Trials

Week 5: 7-13 August

This week I began experimenting with adding the AR component to my shirts. I currently only have my ‘I am Enough and I Have Enough Time’ shirt printed so I will experimenting with Adobe Aero to introduce simple animation to the butterflies, bee and worm on the shirt.

My first trial with Aero did not go smoothly. I watched several tutorials (all only using phones or iPads) and when it came to me mapping the area and then importing assets, my iPad kept crashing. I then tried the app Slide AR (using my iPad still) to create simple 3D assets for my 2D design but the elements wouldn’t align correctly with the shirt (example below) which made me think I need to revise the specifics of how I want my shirt to come to life

During class this week, Alistair sent me several links that walk you through the process of creating elements to add to a scene as well as including a trigger image so I will continue to work on that.

After going through the AR tutorials, I ended up not doing any more work on that front this week and instead turned my attention to emailing more screenprinting businesses. So far on the Sunshine Coast, I have contacted:

  • Scream Printing *contacted last week, yet to hear back

  • Saltwater Threads * contacted last week, yet to hear back

  • Fully Promoted *this particular company only works commercially so I am trying to steer clear of any screenprinting company that offers these services as I believe they will be the same

  • Evolution Screenprinting

  • Budget Screenprinting

  • Caloundra Screenprints

In Brisbane, I have now contacted:

  • The Grim Printer

  • Lee T-shirts

  • T-shirt Mill
